Venice to Introduce Entry Ticket to Combat Overtourism

Italy is known for being a top tourist destination, but the country is feeling the negative effects of mass tourism. Venice, in particular, has been heavily impacted by the surge of visitors, and the city has decided to take action. Starting in 2024, an entry ticket will be required for visitors wanting to enter the historic center of Venice on peak days. The ticket will cost 5 euros and will be in effect during busy periods throughout the year. This is a temporary experiment, but it could become a permanent solution if needed. The goal is to discourage day tourism in certain periods and find a balance between the rights of locals and visitors.
