Xiaomi Unveils ‘HyperOS’ for Its Smartphones and Beyond

Xiaomi is set to introduce its groundbreaking operating system called ‘HyperOS’ as a replacement for the MIUI. This move by the company comes in preparation for its upcoming electric car, which is expected to be released in the first half of next year. HyperOS is a combination of Android and Xiaomi’s ‘Vela’ system, offering users a completely redesigned architecture for seamless connectivity among devices, vehicles, and smart home systems across more than 200 product categories.

CEO Lei Jun revealed in a Weibo post that the development of HyperOS started back in 2017 with the goal of creating a unified system framework that supports Xiaomi’s entire ecosystem. The new operating system will debut on the Xiaomi 14 series smartphones, which have already entered production. The launch date is yet to be announced but rumors suggest it could be by the end of this month.

There’s been speculation about the international availability of HyperOS, and when prompted about it, Lei Jun responded with a vague “stay tuned.” This implies that Xiaomi may have plans to extend the operating system to its international line of products. It will be interesting to see how HyperOS competes with Huawei’s Aito line of electric vehicles.
