Judge Throws Out $32.5 Million Fine Against Google in Sonos Lawsuit

A California federal judge has dismissed a $32.5 million fine against Google in the Sonos lawsuit. Sonos had accused Google of infringing on its speaker patents. However, the judge ruled in favor of Google, stating that Sonos’ patents were not valid. The judge explained that Sonos had filed applications for the patents many years after Google had already presented a plan for multi-room audio technology. The judge concluded that Sonos had attempted to claim ownership of an invention that was already being used by the industry. Sonos plans to appeal the decision.
