Filmmaker Eli Roth Creates a Scary Show for Kids with ‘Fright Krewe’

Filmmaker Eli Roth, known for his grisly horror films, has ventured into the world of animation with his latest project, ‘Fright Krewe.’ Aimed at kids, the show explores supernatural mysteries and monsters, drawing inspiration from Roth’s love of scary cartoons from his childhood.

Roth, along with collaborator James Frye, had the idea for ‘Fright Krewe’ back in 2015. The goal was to create a show similar to ‘Scooby-Doo’ where kids solve supernatural mysteries and confront monsters. Set in New Orleans, the most haunted city in America, the show aims to portray voodoo in a unique way.

According to Roth, scary shows for kids can teach important values such as bravery, friendship, and overcoming fears. He believes that children are stronger and smarter than we give them credit for and that they can handle scary images in a healthy and fun way. Roth’s reputation in the horror genre allowed him to push limits within reason for a family-friendly horror show.

The showrunners, Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco, were able to balance scares with heart and humor, ensuring that kids have a laugh after a big scare. They were also inspired by Roth’s reputation and worked on bringing gore to the show in a safe and creative way.

‘Fright Krewe’ is now available for streaming on Hulu and Peacock.
