Right-wing media quickly seized on this announcement, generating headlines warning of a reimplementation of Covid tyranny.
Conservative politicians have also capitalized on the rise in cases to push their messages against lockdowns and mask mandates. They are harnessing the fears and frustrations of Republican voters, promising no mask or vaccine mandates and never again implementing a lockdown. Former President Donald J. Trump has also rejected countermeasures he previously advocated for, asserting his views on Truth Social, his social network, and accusing the left of using Covid variants as a ploy to reinstate vote-by-mail policies ahead of the upcoming election.
