Activate Car Crash Detection on Your Pixel Phone

What is Car Crash Detection?
Car Crash Detection is a feature available on the Pixel 3 and later models that detects when you’ve been in a car accident. It utilizes the phone’s location, motion sensors, and even ambient audio to determine if a crash has occurred.
Once an accident is detected, your Pixel phone will vibrate, blare an alarm at maximum volume, and ask if you need assistance. Depending on your response, emergency services and your chosen emergency contact(s) will be notified.
How to Activate Car Crash Detection
- Open the Settings app on your Pixel phone.
- Go to Safety & Emergency and tap on Emergency Contacts.
- Select Add Contact and choose a contact from your list.
- Return to the Safety & Emergency screen and activate the Emergency Location Service.
- Once again, go to the Emergency Contacts section. If you already have an emergency contact added, no further action is necessary. To add another contact, select Add Contact and choose from your Contacts app.
- To activate car crash detection, go back to the Safety & Emergency screen and tap on Car Crash Detection. Slide the Car Crash Detection slider to activate it and select OK.
- If you want to alert an emergency contact about an accident, it is highly recommended to enable the Emergency Sharing option. Scroll down and toggle the Emergency Sharing slider.
While not mandatory, it’s advisable to configure all Safety & Emergency features on your Pixel phone to ensure emergency personnel have vital medical information at hand during an emergency.
