Starcrawler: Keeping the Spirit of Rock Alive

Arrow de Wilde, the lead singer of Starcrawler, is embarking on a summer tour with Rival Sons, while keeping the free-spiritedness of rock-n-roll alive. Hailing from the LA music scene, Starcrawler has already released three studio albums and continues to reinvent rock for new audiences.

While being on tour has its highs and lows, de Wilde admits to moments of homesickness and longing for her friends and family back home. However, she has also fallen in love with the tour life, as it offers a unique thrill and energy that keeps her wanting more.

One of de Wilde’s most cherished memories was when Starcrawler served as the opening act for My Chemical Romance during their Euro/UK tour. The intense energy from the audiences left a lasting impression on her. However, de Wilde also holds a special place in her heart for LA venues, as it feels like a homecoming for her.

On the road, Starcrawler finds ways to pass the time, such as engaging in staring contests and creating silly games. Just before going on stage, they have a unique pre-show ritual of jumping and dancing, with Bill, the guitarist, adding a chihuahua-like bark for added excitement.

Despite the romanticized image of touring, de Wilde is transparent about the realities and costs associated with it. In today’s music industry, touring is essential for rock bands to get their name out and, hopefully, make money. Starcrawler has also diversified by writing music for film and television, giving them alternative funds for touring.

Starcrawler’s in-your-face aesthetic, along with their collaborations in film, sets them apart in the current music industry. For their fans, this means not only listening to their music but also immersing themselves in the band’s unique style.

Rock holds a special place in de Wilde’s heart as it allows her to express herself and channel her anger towards the world. Starcrawler focuses on creating music that feels natural and inspiring to them in the moment.

In their latest release, Starcrawler blends punk production with catchy pop lyrics and hints of shoegaze sounds. The songwriting process is collaborative between de Wilde and guitarist Henry Cash, with each contributing their perspectives and experiences.

Starcrawler acknowledges that they are not alone in the fight to keep rock alive. de Wilde is excited to follow other Gen Z rockers like Sabrina’s band Pretty Sick and artist Dagger Polyester.

From intimate Joshua Tree concerts to opening for industry legends, Starcrawler is determined to make their mark on the music scene and continue their success. de Wilde is grateful for everything they have accomplished so far, but also driven to keep pushing forward.
