Brianny Terry Makes Women’s Powerlifting History with Heaviest Deadlift Ever

Powerlifter Brianny Terry has etched her name in the annals of women’s powerlifting history by successfully pulling off the heaviest deadlift ever recorded by a female athlete, not only in her 75-kilogram weight class but across all weight classes in a raw sanctioned meet. This unprecedented feat took place at the 2023 WRPF American Pro 2 held in Manassas, VA, on October 29th.

Terry, competing in the raw with wraps category, stunned the crowd as she lifted a jaw-dropping 291 kilograms (641.6 pounds) in her final deadlift attempt. This incredible achievement shattered the previous record set by Sara Schiff, who lifted 290.5 kilograms at the 2023 FQ Classic in May 2023.

Terry’s approach to the barbell was all business, as she positioned herself in a sumo stance and donned a headband, singlet, and weight belt. With determination in her eyes, she held a mixed grip before initiating the lift.

The pull was a test of strength and focus, lasting nearly 10 seconds before Terry reached the lockout position. A brief pause followed, as all eyes turned to the head judge to deliver the verdict. As the crowd held its breath, Terry witnessed three white lights illuminating the stage, indicating that the all-time world record now belonged to her.

Terry’s dominance on the platform extended beyond the deadlift. She achieved an impressive seven out of nine successful attempts in the squat, bench press, and deadlift categories throughout the meet. Notably, her new deadlift record of 291 kilograms surpassed Kristy Hawkins’ previous 75-kilogram raw deadlift world record of 277 kilograms (611.7 pounds). The American Pro 2 event saw a total of eight world records, with Terry claiming the fifth deadlift record.

Despite accomplishing this remarkable milestone, Terry finished the meet in fifth place overall in the Best Lifter standings. The coveted Best Lifter award was presented to Hawkins, who not only secured the top spot but also broke Marianna Gasparyan’s all-time best DOTS (Dots Over Total Strength) score with a staggering 711.18.

Terry’s fruitful year continued with her earning of the IFBB Pro League Women’s Physique pro card at the 2023 NPC USA Championships in July. As for her future plans in both powerlifting and bodybuilding, Terry did not disclose any specifics during her interview with Garrett Fear. However, she eagerly expressed her readiness to celebrate her latest accomplishment.
