Two Navy SEALs Missing During Operation Off the Coast of Somalia
Last week, two Navy SEALs went missing during an operation off the coast of Somalia. According to reports, they were searching for suspected Iranian weapons on a Yemen-bound boat.
Operation Off the Coast of Somalia
The Navy SEALs were conducting an operation to find smuggled Iranian weapons when they went missing. The incident occurred near Somalia while they were searching for a Yemen-bound boat in the Gulf of Aden.
It has been revealed that one SEAL slipped from a ladder and fell into the water, before the second SEAL jumped in to try and help. Western militaries have been carrying out raids to intercept boats smuggling weapons from Iran to Yemen, where Houthi rebels are supported and armed by Tehran.
Search and Rescue Mission
A search-and-rescue mission has been underway since the Navy SEALs were reported missing. The area they were operating in covers 2.5 million square miles of water around the Middle East, including important shipping routes like the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz.
Continuing Search-And-Rescue Operations
Search-and-rescue operations are still ongoing, but the Navy SEALs have little chance of survival after multiple days lost at sea. The warm but powerful waters of the Gulf of Aden make survival difficult, even with their intensive training that lasts for over two years.
