Trump Requests Trial Postponement, Fails to Mention Campaign Rally
Trump’s Request for Trial Postponement
Former President Donald Trump recently requested a trial date postponement for E. Jean Carroll’s defamation trial. The reason given was that he would be traveling to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral. However, Trump failed to mention that he also had a campaign rally scheduled for the same evening.
The Court’s Decision
Judge Lewis Kaplan, overseeing the case, denied Trump’s request for postponement. Although expressing condolences to the Trump family, the trial will continue as scheduled. Trump is not required to attend the trial, but he had expressed interest in doing so. The judge clarified that Trump was free to attend the trial, the funeral, or both, as he wished.
Carroll’s Lawyers Point Out the Omission
Lawyers representing E. Jean Carroll pointed out that Trump’s request failed to mention his campaign rally in New Hampshire scheduled for the same day. The letter from Carroll’s lawyers expressed that there had been no mention of any scheduling conflict related to Trump’s presidential campaign in his request for trial postponement.
The Funeral, Trial, and Campaign Event
While the funeral is scheduled for Thursday, the trial is set to begin on Wednesday. Trump’s campaign website still shows the campaign rally in New Hampshire on Wednesday evening. It remains unclear if he plans to attend the event, as he is no longer the President, but the opportunity for the public to register for tickets is still available as of now.
Trump’s Reaction on Truth Social
Trump took to his new social media platform, Truth Social, to express his dissatisfaction with Judge Kaplan’s decision. He criticized the judge, calling him “Crazed” and accusing him of intentionally scheduling the trial during the New Hampshire primary. Trump didn’t address the Carroll letter in his post.
A spokesperson for Trump has not yet provided a comment regarding the issue.
