Taylor Swift's Journey to Embrace the 'Taylor's Version' Albums

Taylor Swift’s Journey to Embrace the ‘Taylor’s Version’ Albums

It’s hard to imagine a world now without the “Taylor’s Version” albums. But it turns out Taylor Swift herself wasn’t initially sold on the concept. In an interview with TIME’s Sam Lansky, Swift revealed that she had initially dismissed suggestions to rerecord her music.

Suggestions from Kelly Clarkson and her father to “just redo it” left Swift feeling reluctant. She compared the idea to having to “redo” her “homework,” stating that nobody wants to go through the effort of redoing something that they’ve already completed.

However, Swift eventually changed her mind much to the delight of fans. She has since released rerecorded versions of four albums – “Fearless”, “Red”, “Speak Now”, and “1989”. Fans are eagerly awaiting the re-release of her self-titled debut album and 2017’s “Reputation”.

Swift had announced her plan to rerecord her music in August 2019, following the controversial sale of her masters by Scooter Braun, who had acquired her first record label. Swift expressed her disappointment and frustration over the situation, stating that she felt a deep sense of betrayal. Braun later sold the rights to Swift’s masters to an investment fund in November 2020. However, this did not deter Swift from her decision to reclaim her music catalog.

Despite the initial hesitation, Swift now finds joy in the process of recording her work. She likens it to collecting horcruxes and infinity stones, referring to the iconic symbolism in the Harry Potter and Avengers franchises. Recording the ‘Taylor’s Version’ albums has become a cinematic experience for Swift.

Representatives for Taylor Swift have not provided any further comment on the matter.
