Ron DeSantis Condemns Kevin McCarthy’s Downfall in House Speaker Position

Florida Governor and Republican presidential candidate, Ron DeSantis, criticized former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in a recent interview, attributing his removal to former President Donald Trump.

In an interview with Scripps News, DeSantis stated that McCarthy owed his position to Trump’s support but failed to deliver satisfactory results during his almost nine-month term. DeSantis also noted that his opposition to McCarthy dates back to years ago when it was not popular.

As a former member of Congress and a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, DeSantis clashed with McCarthy and made it clear that the support of the caucus was contingent on substantial concessions. Furthermore, DeSantis previously criticized McCarthy during his presidential campaign, questioning whether the former speaker would have been successful without Trump’s assistance.

In January, Trump personally called lawmakers to seek their support for McCarthy’s speakership bid. He also used the Truth Social platform, which he launched earlier this year, to rally his supporters for McCarthy’s election.

Following McCarthy’s removal, Interim Speaker Patrick McHenry has temporarily assumed the position until a new speaker is elected.
