Reka Unveils Yasa-1: A Multimodal AI Assistant with Advanced Capabilities

Reka, an AI startup founded by researchers from DeepMind, Google, Baidu, and Meta, has recently announced the launch of Yasa-1. Unlike traditional AI assistants, Yasa-1 goes beyond text and can understand images, short videos, and audio snippets. This new multimodal assistant is currently available in private preview and offers extensive customization options for enterprise use cases. Yasa-1 supports 20 different languages, provides context-based answers from the internet, processes long documents, and can even execute code.

Designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which also recently upgraded to support visual and audio prompts, Yasa-1 offers a unified model trained by Reka that can process not only words but also multimedia files. Users can combine text-based prompts with images, audio, and videos to obtain more specific answers. For example, Yasa-1 can generate social media posts based on product images or analyze sounds and their sources.

Yasa-1’s ability to comprehend videos is particularly impressive, as it can identify topics being discussed and predict future actions. This feature proves advantageous for video analytics, although some improvements are still needed. Reka recommends limiting audio and video clips to one minute for optimal results.

Additionally, Yasa-1 supports features such as processing long context documents, executing code (exclusive to on-premise deployments), and incorporating the latest web content into its answers. Furthermore, Reka plans to continue expanding Yasa-1’s capabilities and accessibility to more enterprises while addressing its current limitations.

Although Reka is a relatively new player in the AI field, its team of researchers from industry giants like Google and Meta gives it a competitive edge. Reka secured $58 million in funding just three months ago and faces tough competition from well-established players like OpenAI and Anthropic. However, Reka is determined to build on its success and continue developing AI technologies that contribute to solving significant challenges.
