Recognizing Unsung Heroes: Honoring Game Development Staff at The Game Awards

The Game Awards are an exciting event in the gaming industry, filled with trailers and world premieres that generate buzz and anticipation for upcoming games. However, there’s a part of me that wishes the event would go beyond showcasing trailers and actually recognize the hard work of the unsung heroes behind the scenes.

The Oscars, for all its faults, at least attempt to acknowledge the different aspects of filmmaking that contribute to a great film. From sound mixing to editing, they recognize the individuals who often go unnoticed but play a crucial role in creating a cinematic masterpiece.

Similarly, The Game Awards should consider honoring the individuals who work tirelessly in game development, many of whom have lost their jobs this year through no fault of their own. While the trailers and world premieres are important for raising awareness for games, it’s important not to overlook the human element.

GamesBeat at the Game Awards: Pixels to Pop Culture

Fortunately, there is an event that aims to explore the human element of the games industry. GamesBeat’s “Pixels to Pop Culture” event, held just before The Game Awards, will dive into how the games industry collaborates with Hollywood to create new and immersive experiences for audiences. This event will shed light on the behind-the-scenes work and highlight the people who bring these experiences to life.

While I won’t be able to attend in person, given my commitment to putting together a massive EOY ranking list, I’ll definitely be watching the event online before The Game Awards commence.
