Intercepted Call Reveals Russian Soldier Admitting Staged Combat Videos

Ukraine’s military intelligence service has recently published an intercepted phone call of a Russian soldier confessing to staging combat videos. In the call, the soldier revealed that his unit was instructed to make it appear like they were fighting effectively on the frontlines, even though the reality was different.

According to the translated audio, the soldier expressed frustration over the manipulation and revealed that the videos were sent to their superiors. He also mentioned the difficulty in carrying away the bodies of fallen comrades, stating that bodies would often lie abandoned near their positions.

The soldier’s wife confirmed that she had seen footage showing Russian troops advancing through a Ukrainian village. However, the soldier dismissed it as untrue and admitted taking similar videos meant to portray success. He even mentioned that his commander suggested recreating scenes from the Russian war film ‘The 9th Company’.

It is worth noting that the authenticity and timing of the call remain unverified, and it is unclear which unit the soldier belonged to. However, intercepted calls from Russian soldiers expressing frustration and discontent have been a recurring occurrence since the invasion in February 2022.
