Elon Musk Sued Grimes for Custody of Their Children Before She Filed Her Suit, Insider Reports
Headlines broke this week reporting that Grimes had filed a custody suit against Elon Musk, but it has now been revealed that Musk actually sued Grimes first. In documents obtained by Insider, it was revealed that on September 7, Musk filed a suit to establish a relationship and access to his three children with Grimes. Musk accused Grimes of moving to California to avoid the jurisdiction of Texas courts. The Tesla CEO served the suit to Grimes on September 13. Grimes then filed her own suit against Musk on September 29, requesting physical custody of the children and a restraining order to prevent their relocation out of California.
Musk’s suit sought to settle the custody dispute and stated that he believed it would, but he wanted Texas courts to have jurisdiction if an agreement couldn’t be reached. Both Musk and Grimes have declined to comment on the situation, and a court official confirmed that a scheduled hearing was canceled after the parties agreed to a seal.
This legal dispute between Musk and Grimes is the latest in their often-contentious relationship. While their younger children have remained out of the public eye, their eldest, X, has frequently been seen with Musk. Grimes has previously voiced her desire to keep her children away from public attention. The couple first broke up in 2021 but continued living together in Austin for a period after the split. Last month, Grimes posted a now-deleted message on social media, pleading with Musk to let her see her son.
This development comes after it was revealed that Musk has fathered 10 children with three different women, including Grimes and Shivon Zilis. Grimes mentioned Zilis in her social media post, stating that she had never been allowed to see pictures of Zilis’ children with Musk. However, Grimes and Zilis have since announced that they are no longer feuding.
