Elon Musk Announces Return of Article Headlines on X Platform

Elon Musk has announced that X will once again display article headlines for links posted on the platform. This about-turn comes less than two months after the platform stopped displaying article headlines in October. Musk previously stated that removing the headlines would enhance the site’s aesthetics.

Musk made the announcement in a recent post on X, stating that in an upcoming release, the platform will overlay article titles on the upper portion of the image of a URL card. This new approach is a response to user feedback and aims to maintain a visually appealing design while providing article context.

Musk’s decision to revert to displaying article headlines differs from his previous intent to eliminate them. In August, he claimed that removing headlines would greatly improve aesthetics. However, when faced with criticism about reversing his decision, Musk clarified that the titles would be overlaid on the image at the top, with the URL displayed at the bottom. He expressed dislike for the platform’s previous design of “giant, ugly URL cards.”

Since acquiring the platform in October 2022, Musk has implemented several changes. This includes discontinuing X’s legacy verification program, which was replaced by the Twitter Blue subscription program in April. In September, Musk mentioned the potential implementation of a paywall to combat bot activity on the platform.

Business Insider reached out to representatives of X for comment, but there has been no response at the time of writing.
