CEO of Arrayit sentenced to 8 years in prison for defrauding investors

A Silicon Valley executive, Mark Schena, was sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to pay $24 million in restitution for defrauding investors. Schena falsely claimed that his company, Arrayit Corporation, had revolutionary technology that could test for allergies and COVID-19 using a finger-stick test kit. He also paid bribes to doctors and fraudulently billed Medicare for COVID-19 and allergy tests.

This case bears similarities to the legal saga of former Silicon Valley star Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos. Holmes, convicted on four felony counts of investor fraud, defrauded investors by promising a technology that could scan for hundreds of diseases with just a few drops of blood. Both cases highlight the consequences of dishonest practices and the importance of holding individuals accountable for defrauding investors.
